CURRICULUM VITAE (SHORT) – Prof. Angelo MASI

ACADEMIC TRAINING, DEGREES

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, summa cum laude, at the University of Naples “Federico II”.
  • Technical Responsible of the Laboratory of Testing Materials and Structures of the University of Basilicata from 1991 to 1994.
  • Assistant Professor of Structural Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Basilicata from 1994 to 1998.
  • Associate Professor of Structural Engineering at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Chieti from 1998 to 2001.
  • Associate Professor of Structural Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Basilicata from 1.11.2001. He has been giving also the course of Seismic Risk Management since 2003.

 

FUNCTIONS, CURRENT ACTIVITIES

  • He is member of the Executive Board of the ReLUIS Consortium (University Network of the Seismic Engineering Laboratories), and Scientific Coordinator of the Centre of Competence on Seismic Risk of the Basilicata Region.
  • He takes part, as collaborator or responsible, to national and international research contracts and research projects.
  • He is National Coordinator of the Research Line 3.2 “Services for Emergency Management and Rapid Response” of the 2009-2012 ReLUIS Project funded by the Italian Department of Civil Protection. In the framework of the same Project
  • He is Scientific Responsible of the Research Unit (RU) of the University of Basilicata for the Task “New aspects in the assessment of existing buildings and strengthening techniques, evaluation of the seismic risk of the built heritage at regional scale”.
  • He is Scientific Responsible of some Research Contracts with National and local Public Institutions.
  • He is Member of RILEM Technical Committee ISC – In situ Strength assessment of Concrete.

 

MAIN RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

  • Research activity is mainly related to Earthquake Engineering problems, resulting in over 150 papers on national and international reviews and conference proceedings.
  • His papers mainly deal with:

-          the seismic behaviour of Reinforced Concrete (RC) buildings,

-          the seismic vulnerability of masonry and RC buildings,

-          the experimental evaluation of the mechanical characteristics of traditional and advanced materials,

-          the use of advanced materials, devices and techniques (passive control) for the seismic protection of constructions.

 

MISCELLANEOUS (past activities, awards, participation in international bodies, ...)

  • He took part to the preparation activities of Eurocode 8 - Part 3: Assessment and Retrofitting of Buildings, and of previous Italian Seismic Code (OPCM 3274/2003) as invited expert.
  • As regards his main scientific and academic activities, he was:

-          Scientific Responsible of an extensive Research Program named "Seismic Vulnerability of R/C buildings" funded by the Italian Seismic Agency (1999-2003);

-          Scientific Responsible of the RU of the University of Basilicata within the Research Program PRIN 2002 “Design of bridges protected by strongly non linear seismic isolation system”(2003-2004);

-          Scientific Responsible of the Tasks “Non Destructive Testing” and “RC Beam-Column Joints” of the ReLUIS Project, Research Line 2 “Assessment and Reduction of Seismic Vulnerability of RC buildings” funded by the Italian Department of Civil Protection (2005-2008).

-          Scientific Responsible of several Research Contracts with National and local Public Institutions.
